WHO WE ARE

Sprite Animation Studios is a boutique CGI animation house internationally known for its unique, funky style, creativity, and high-quality work that has been featured in feature films, trade shows, and television series, as well as at festival venues such as Annecy, the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater, Ottawa, and Pictoplasma.

In early 2009, Sprite entered into a partnership with OLM, Inc., a Japanese animation studio most famous for producing all of the wildly popular Pokémon animated films and TV series. With this new arrangement, Sprite’s small, elite team of artists, animators, and programmers at our Los Angeles office now has the support of nearly 200 experienced Tokyo-based personnel, greatly expanding our production capacity and our ability to deliver cost-effective, top-of-the-line design and animation services for jobs of any size.

In addition to our service work, Sprite specializes in the creation and development of exciting new properties for television, film, and gaming, as well as mobile and online content. A sampling of some of Sprite’s internally developed projects is available from the “Works” page. We are always interested in speaking with possible co-production partners!

SPRITE

The term “sprite” refers to small fairies and various spirits or mythical beings, including the Japanese “yohkai.” In computer graphics, however, “sprite” is used to refer to a partially transparent two-dimensional animation that is mapped onto a special plane in a three-dimensional scene, creating an effective illusion. In many cases, sprites are used to depict phenomena such as fire, smoke, small objects, plants, or special symbols.

Our concept of “Sprite” is an image of bright fireflies dancing in the deep forest. As a collective light, it constantly shifts and changes in shape and form, creating beautiful art without a predetermined design. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that its creative energy derives from the contributions of each individual light.
